In India we dont say "I am stressed". We say "थोड़ा काम का प्रेशर है यार".
And this is exactly what Western mental health companies get wrong about India.
Western mental health apps keep asking Indian employees: "Are you stressed? Do you need counseling?"
Wrong question entirely in the Indian context.
We Indians actually don't know how to actually communicate distress. We minimize. We downplay. We wrap our screams in politeness.
"मैनेज हो जाएगा" means "I have no idea how I'll survive this week."
"बस टाइम का इश्यू है" is "I haven't slept properly in months."
"थोड़ा प्रेशर है" is Indian code for "I'm drowning, but I can't say that because what will people think?"
Building mental health solutions for India means learning to speak "Indian".
Not just Hindi, Marathi, or Tamil... but the emotional language of a culture that's mastered the art of saying everything while saying nothing.
Because if you can't decode "थोड़ा प्रेशर है," you're not solving India's mental health crisis. You're just adding to it.
