By the time a practice is labeled as "best," it has lost its cutting-edge advantage. Best practices are based on historical successes and may discourage innovative thinking. They might take you to good, but they'll never take you to exceptional.

Many of us consider best practices as the gold standard for achieving optimal results and excellence. However, blindly following established best practices may lead to mediocrity instead of excellence. The reasoning behind is that by the time a practice is labelled as “best,” it has often lost its cutting-edge advantage and has become average because everyone starts doing it. Best practices are based on historical successes and established norms, which may discourage innovative thinking and do not account for the constantly evolving landscape. Blindly following best practices will bring us to Innovation Stagnation.

It is not to say that best practices are worthless; they are not. Instead, they should serve as a foundation and not a limitation. Best practices might take you to good, but they will never take you to exceptional.
So, instead of settling for just best practices, let’s strive for excellence by taking the path less traveled or less “best practiced.” Let’s not be afraid to think outside the box and challenge the status quo. That’s where true innovation and success lies.
